Taco Bell has recently launched an exciting new addition to its menu – the Cheesy Street Chalupas. These delectable Chalupas feature a crispy shell filled with a combination of mozzarella, pepper jack cheese, jalapeño ranch sauce, chopped cilantro and onion, and the choice of Cantina chicken or grilled, marinated steak. Priced at two for $5.49, these street-style Chalupas are sure to tantalize taste buds, but they are only available for a limited time.
Luis Restrepo, Taco Bell’s vice president of product innovation, shared that the inspiration behind these new offerings comes from street food vendors. He expressed, “The Chalupa has taken many delicious forms over the years, but with the Cheesy Street Chalupas, we set out to create a new flavor-rich way for fans to enjoy the beloved menu item. The fresh onions and cilantro atop layers of cheese and premium proteins seasoned to perfection adds a different flavor profile and is our playful nod to the street taco that we all know and love.”
The Chalupa, initially introduced in 1999, has seen various iterations such as the XXL Chalupa, the Baja Chalupa, and the Nacho Cheese Doritos Locos Chalupa. The idea for the street-sized cheese-stuffed Chalupa shells was inspired by the Quesalupa shell, a previous spinoff introduced in 2016 for a limited time.
Taco Bell’s Cheesy Street Chalupa is not just a culinary delight but also a gesture towards supporting street food vendors. Over the last two years, Taco Bell has generously donated 26 street food vendor carts in collaboration with Revolution Carts. By the end of this year, a total of 46 street-legal food carts will have been donated to food entrepreneurs across Southern California.
