Microsoft Teams Platform Experiences Outage, Users Express Frustration

Microsoft Teams, a communication platform developed by Microsoft, experienced an outage on Friday, prompting the company to investigate the issues. The outage was reported by numerous users, leading to complaints peaking around 11:30 AM ET, as per Downdetector, a website that tracks online outages.

According to Microsoft 365 Status, the company’s response to the situation was, ‘We’re investigating an issue impacting multiple Microsoft Teams features. Further details can be found under TM710344 in the admin center.’ More than 2500 people reported issues with the platform, with 57% facing server problems, 41% encountering application issues, and 2% experiencing audio quality problems.

Several frustrated users took to social media to express their concerns about the outage. One user tweeted, ‘Hey @MicrosoftTeams please figure out what is going on with the teams app and fix it. Chats won’t load, keep getting a blank screen even though I have connected and there is no issue with my internet connection.’ Another user added, ‘@MicrosoftTeams what are you guys doing… nothing works.’ A third user mentioned, ‘down on desktop not on my phone tho.’

This is not the first time such an outage has occurred. A similar incident was reported in September 2023, where users complained about being unable to send messages on the platform. Microsoft had responded to that problem with a similar statement, ‘We’re investigating an incident affecting Microsoft Teams. Users may encounter delays or failures sending and receiving messages.’

Microsoft Teams, launched in 2017, is described on the company’s website as ‘the ultimate messaging app for your organization—a workspace for real-time collaboration and communication, meetings, file and app sharing, and even the occasional emoji.’

As of now, the company is actively addressing the issues to ensure the smooth functioning of the Microsoft Teams platform for its users.
