As Easter Sunday approaches, some stores in Massachusetts are preparing to close their doors to allow employees to celebrate the holiday with their loved ones. Marshalls and TJ Maxx, popular retail destinations, will continue their tradition of being closed on Easter in 2024, along with HomeGoods, Sierra, and Homesense stores under the TJX umbrella. This decision aims to give employees the opportunity to enjoy the holiday with their families.

The parent company, TJX, emphasized its commitment to being an employee-friendly organization, stating, ‘We consider ourselves an Associate-friendly company and we are pleased to give Associates the time to enjoy Easter with family and friends.’

Massachusetts is not bound by ‘Blue Laws’ that mandate business closures on Easter, but several businesses have opted to close nonetheless. Big Y supermarkets, pharmacies, and ‘Big Y Express’ locations will also be closed on Easter to allow their employees to spend quality time with their loved ones. Market Basket, another prominent grocery store chain in Massachusetts, will follow suit and close its stores on Easter.

However, some stores will remain open on Easter Sunday. Stop & Shop will have special store hours, operating from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., while Stop & Shop pharmacies will be closed for the day. Staples, headquartered in Framingham, will have select stores open from noon to 5 p.m., with the remainder closed. As for national chains, Walmart locations will maintain regular hours, while Target will close all its stores on Easter.

It’s important for shoppers to be aware of these closures and adjusted store hours as they plan their Easter Sunday activities. With some stores closed and others operating on modified schedules, individuals can make informed decisions about their holiday shopping and errands.
