Luke Combs’ Cover of ‘Runnin’ Down a Dream’ Selected as 2024 SEC Season Anthem

As the summer heat continues to rise, college football fans eagerly anticipate the start of the 2024 SEC season. Luke Combs and the SEC have collaborated to bring an extra dose of excitement with Combs’ cover of Tom Petty’s ‘Runnin’ Down a Dream’ selected as this season’s anthem.

The SEC recently unveiled a high-energy video on social media featuring football highlights set to Combs’ rendition of the classic Petty track. Fans are encouraged to ‘Turn this one ALL the way up’ as the SEC dubbed it their new anthem for the season.

This isn’t the first time Luke Combs has been associated with the SEC. In 2021, his song ‘South on Ya’ was used as the conference’s anthem, showcasing his strong ties to the football community.

Known for his songwriting skills, Combs also excels at covering songs. His rendition of ‘Runnin’ Down a Dream’ was featured on the Tom Petty tribute album ‘Petty Country.’ Combs has a history of delivering impressive covers, including Tracy Chapman’s ‘Fast Car’ and Brooks & Dunn’s ‘Brand New Man.’

Continuing his streak of successful covers, Combs recently recorded a version of John Anderson’s ‘Seminole Wind’ for the Anderson tribute album ‘Something Borrowed, Something New.’
