The upcoming album by Imagine Dragons is shrouded in ambiguity, starting from its cover art that depicts two figures against a backdrop of a dawning or setting sun. Lead singer and songwriter Dan Reynolds finds significance in this dual interpretation, reflecting on beginnings and endings.
Titled ‘Loom,’ the nine-track album is set to be released on June 28. Following Reynolds’ divorce from musician Aja Volkman, the album explores themes of moving forward and looking back. Tracks like ‘Nice to Meet Ya’ exude a sunny disposition, while ‘In Your Corner’ and ‘Don’t Forget Me’ delve into more introspective reflections.
According to Reynolds, the album’s creation was an organic process, with each song reflecting his emotions in the moment. From the intense ‘Wake Up’ to the nostalgic ‘Take Me to the Beach’ and the anthemic ‘Kid,’ ‘Loom’ promises a diverse sonic experience.
Recorded in a departure from their usual production approach, Imagine Dragons worked with just one producer, the Swedish duo of Mattman & Robin. The band, comprising guitarist Wayne Sermon, bassist Ben McKee, and drummer Daniel Platzman, embraced a fresh perspective in crafting the album.
‘Loom’ showcases the band’s ability to blend heavy concepts with a playful touch, as seen in the track ‘Kid’ inspired by ’90s music and featuring a choir. Reynolds describes the album as a genuine expression of his current state, capturing a range of emotions and musical influences.
