FTC Refunding Over $5.6 Million to Ring Customers Due to Security Breaches

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is in the process of refunding over $5.6 million to Ring customers as part of a settlement reached in 2023. This refund comes after Ring was accused of lacking sufficient security measures, which led to both hackers and employees accessing private consumer videos.

The FTC found that Ring failed in three key areas: inadequate prevention of unauthorized access to videos, unauthorized use of customer videos, and overall poor security practices. These violations ultimately resulted in breaches of consumer privacy.

If you are a Ring doorbell owner who had the device during the affected period, you may be entitled to a refund. Approximately 117,000 individuals qualify for a payment, and to confirm eligibility, customers can contact the administrator, Rust Consulting, Inc., at 1-833-637-4884 or visit the FTC website’s FAQ section. Once registered, recipients will receive a PayPal payment, which must be redeemed within 30 days to prevent potential fraud attempts.

Consumers should remain vigilant against fraudulent schemes offering fake refunds, as the FTC never requests payment or personal information to process refunds. It is essential to exercise caution and verify the legitimacy of refund claims.
