Zavier Lucero set to make PBA debut with NorthPort

Zavier Lucero is set to make his PBA debut after being activated by NorthPort on the eve of their Philippine Cup opener. The 6-foot-7 Lucero, who sustained an ACL injury during the 2022 UAAP finals while playing for the University of the Philippines, has been out of action for more than a year. However, this setback didn’t stop him from being drafted by the Batang Pier at No. 5 in last September’s draft.

Lucero, known for his high-flying performances, also signed a two-year contract with the Batang Pier. He was a standout player for the UP team, winning the Mythical Five in 2021 and ranking as the second leading scorer of the Maroons with an average of 11.4 points.

After undergoing rehabilitation in the United States, Lucero has returned to the country to prepare for his upcoming stint with NorthPort. He will replace John Amores in the roster for the Batang Pier’s conference opener against NLEX on Friday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
