Xbox Live Major Outage Causes Disruptions for Players

Xbox Live experienced a major outage on Thursday night, causing disruptions for players trying to sign in or connect to online games. The outage affected Xbox Series X / S, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 users, with issues ranging from sign-in difficulties to connectivity errors in online games.

According to Xbox’s status page, the outage impacted features that require sign-in, such as games, apps, and social activities. Players faced challenges with signing into their accounts, experiencing Xbox sign-in errors in online-connected games, and encountering issues with features like remote play.

As of 8:20 PM ET, Xbox confirmed that the outage also affected the Xbox Store and subscriptions, preventing users from purchasing games. While there were improvements in sign-in functionality, matchmaking and completing purchases remained affected.

Microsoft, the parent company of Xbox, was also dealing with outages in other services. The company reported issues with multiple Azure services in the Central US region and Microsoft 365 apps and services. Despite ongoing problems, Microsoft noted improvements in the situation by late evening.

Frontier Airlines was significantly impacted by the Microsoft outage, leading to system disruptions and a temporary ground stop on flights. However, the Federal Aviation Administration lifted the ground stop after 10 PM ET, allowing operations to resume.

The outage was tracked by Downdetector, with over 7,000 user reports initially, but the number gradually decreased over time. This incident follows a previous outage earlier in the month that also affected online gameplay for several hours.

Stay tuned for further updates on the situation as Xbox and Microsoft work to resolve the issues and restore services to normal.
