A woman in Portland, Oregon, has filed a lawsuit against a local nail salon, alleging that she contracted herpes after receiving an acrylic nail manicure at the establishment. The 23-year-old customer visited PDX Nails, located at 11946 NE Glisan Street, for the treatment on June 1, 2023.

According to the complaint, the woman claims that the nail technician did not use gloves during the procedure and stored tools and drill bits in an Altoids mint container. Following the manicure, she noticed signs of infection and inflammation on her right index finger, prompting her to seek medical attention.

After a telehealth appointment and a subsequent visit to urgent care, the woman was diagnosed with herpetic whitlow, commonly known as genital herpes. She asserts that she did not have the virus prior to the nail appointment and has since experienced painful outbreaks.

The lawsuit alleges negligence and unlawful trade practices, with the woman seeking $1.75 million in damages from the salon. The case has garnered attention and raised concerns about hygiene and safety practices in nail salons, prompting discussions about customer protection and industry regulations.
