WNBA Recap: Liberty, Sun, and Storm Secure Wins

Breanna Stewart put on a stellar performance as she scored a season-high 33 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the New York Liberty to an 88-75 victory over the Chicago Sky. The game saw rookie Angel Reese from the Sky getting ejected in the fourth quarter after receiving two technical fouls following an interaction with an official.

Sabrina Ionescu contributed 24 points to the Liberty’s win, marking their fourth consecutive victory. New York started strong with a 21-6 run and continued their dominance by outscoring Chicago 80-68 in the fourth quarter, securing their lead.

In another WNBA matchup, the Connecticut Sun defeated the Washington Mystics with a final score of 76-59. DeWanna Bonner led the Sun with 20 points and eight rebounds, while Brionna Jones added 15 points. This victory marked Connecticut’s ninth straight win, making them the seventh team in WNBA history to achieve this feat.

Connecticut is now set to face New York in their upcoming game, aiming to become the fourth team in WNBA history to start with a 10-0 record. On the other hand, Washington’s struggles continued as they set a franchise record with nine consecutive losses to start the season.

Meanwhile, the Seattle Storm secured their fifth consecutive win by defeating the Phoenix Mercury 80-62. Ezi Magbegor shined with 21 points, 13 of which came in the first quarter. Skylar Diggins-Smith added 17 points to seal the victory for Seattle, who also announced a contract extension for Magbegor through the 2025 season.
