Withings Unveils BeamO ‘Multiscope’ for At-Home Health Monitoring

Health tech company Withings has unveiled its latest innovation, the BeamO ‘multiscope,’ at the Consumer Electronics Show. This small and portable device is designed to allow individuals to conduct four routine medical checks at home, including measuring body temperature, heart rate, blood oxygen levels, and listening to heart and lung sounds.

BeamO, described as ‘the world’s first multiscope’ by Withings, aims to revolutionize at-home health monitoring and enhance telehealth appointments by providing vital health data that would typically be assessed during a doctor’s visit.

Eric Carreel, the founder and president of Withings, emphasized the significance of BeamO, stating, ‘BeamO will revolutionize the measurement of the core vitals carried out during medical visits from the comfort of one’s own home. This crucial data will provide a vital overview of overall health or warning signs of potential areas of concern.’

Carreel further highlighted the capabilities of BeamO, envisioning it as ‘the thermometer of the future,’ offering the ability to assess temperature and observe the state of the heart and lungs.

BeamO is an evolution of Withings’ Thermo, a no-contact infrared thermometer released in 2016. While maintaining the rounded edges of the original design, BeamO features a more compact remote control-like appearance.

The device utilizes various sensors, including photoplethysmography technology for pulse oximetry and electrodes for measuring heart rate, all while being held by the user. Additionally, BeamO incorporates a contactless thermometer and piezoelectric discs to power the digital stethoscope functionality.
