Wegmans Recalls Pepperoni Over Metal Contamination Concerns

A popular supermarket chain, Wegmans, has issued a recall for packaged deli meat over concerns of potential metal contamination. The grocery giant announced the recall of pepperoni in stores across eight states due to ‘possible metal foreign material’ contamination. The affected product, Wegmans Italian Classics Uncured Pepperoni, was sold with the UPC code 2-07939-00000-6 and best by dates of August 28, 2024, and August 29, 2024. It was available at over 100 stores nationwide, including locations in the District of Columbia, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

This recall follows a series of other recent recalls, including one for cucumbers sold by Florida-based Fresh Start Produce Sales Inc. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced a recall for cucumbers shipped to 14 states from May 17 through May 21 due to potential Salmonella contamination. Salmonella can cause severe infections, particularly in individuals with weakened immune systems. Additionally, Dairy Manufacturers, Inc. recently conducted a voluntary recall of three brands of baby formula for non-compliance with FDA regulations. Although no adverse reactions have been reported, the ingredients have yet to be evaluated for food safety and nutritional standards.
