Weekend Sports Events in Baltimore Region Expected to Bring Economic Boost

Weekend sports events in the Baltimore region are set to bring about an economic boost, with several major happenings on the agenda. The upcoming Preakness Stakes at Pimlico in Baltimore, Orioles games at Camden Yards, and an NCAA Lacrosse Tournament scheduled for Sunday in Towson are expected to have a significant impact.

Anirban Basu, the Chairman & CEO of the Sage Policy Group, highlighted the potential economic benefits, estimating that the Preakness alone could generate $50 million in economic activity, while a strong turnout at Orioles games could contribute $3-4 million in economic impact.

Basu emphasized that these events not only create job opportunities and tax revenue but also add vibrancy to the community. The influx of people to lively places enhances the overall appeal and benefits the local area.

Moreover, the ongoing plan to revitalize Pimlico is in progress. Officials from the Maryland Thoroughbred Racetrack Operating Authority have outlined their intentions to reconstruct the facility, aiming to transform it into a modern and functional venue.
