Warner Bros. Unveils Trailer for M. Night Shyamalan’s ‘Trap’ Thriller

Warner Bros. has unveiled the trailer for M. Night Shyamalan’s upcoming mystery thriller ‘Trap,’ featuring a star-studded cast including Josh Hartnett, Saleka Shyamalan, Hayley Mills, and Marnie McPhail.

‘Trap’ revolves around a father and his teenage daughter attending a pop concert, only to discover they are entangled in a dark and sinister plot. The movie’s sneak peek was showcased at this year’s CinemaCon in Las Vegas.

In the trailer, viewers witness Hartnett’s character and his daughter, Jody, at a concert headlined by pop sensation Lady Raven. As the father briefly leaves for the restroom, he notices a heavy police presence at the event, soon realizing they are on the hunt for a serial killer. Shockingly, it is later revealed that Hartnett’s character is the very killer they are searching for, holding a victim captive as depicted on his phone. The trailer concludes with Hartnett’s chilling laughter, hinting at the suspenseful narrative to unfold.

Aside from CinemaCon, the ‘Trap’ trailer was previewed at an exclusive event in Los Angeles dubbed ‘The Summer of Shyamalan,’ where the filmmaker delved into details about ‘Trap’ and ‘The Watchers,’ a project he produced. ‘The Watchers’ is a creation of his daughter, Ishana Night Shyamalan, while Saleka Shyamalan, his other daughter, takes on the role of the pop star in ‘Trap’ and contributes her musical talents to the film’s soundtrack.

Shyamalan expressed his interest in exploring a unique perspective in ‘Trap,’ opting to narrate the story from the viewpoint of an unexpected character, namely Hartnett’s killer. He emphasized the infusion of dark humor reminiscent of his previous works like ‘Servant,’ ‘The Visit,’ and ‘Split,’ aiming to strike a balance between fear and amusement for the audience.

The director shed light on the casting of Josh Hartnett, highlighting the actor’s recent resurgence in projects like ‘Black Mirror’ and ‘Oppenheimer.’ Shyamalan’s unconventional approach to filmmaking, characterized by a ‘small, reasonable’ production style, seeks performers who can fully immerse themselves in the narrative without reservation, fostering a collaborative and daring environment.
