Walmart to Close Store in Columbus

Walmart has announced the closure of its store located at 3579 S. High St. in Columbus, situated in the Great Southern shopping center. The decision, as stated by the company, follows a comprehensive review process and is attributed to the store’s failure to meet financial expectations despite the overall strength of Walmart’s business.

The store is scheduled to cease operations on Feb. 16, with the pharmacy closing on March 4. Walmart has assured that the 180 employees at the affected store are eligible for transfer to one of the chain’s twelve other central Ohio stores. Additionally, these employees will continue to receive payment through May 3, and those who do not opt for transfer will be provided with severance packages.

Expressing gratitude towards the customers, company spokesperson Brian Little emphasized the commitment to serving them through other store locations, online at walmart.com, and via home or business delivery services.

Notably, Walmart had previously announced the closure of underperforming stores, with 24 closures occurring last year. However, the company has clarified that there are no further planned closures in the Columbus region at present. In Ohio, Walmart operates 170 stores and Sam’s Clubs, employing over 56,000 workers in the state.
