Wall Street Journal editorial staffers represented by IAPE 1096 are gearing up for a walkout following rumors of impending layoffs in the U.S. News department. The union, in a message to its members, expressed concern over the treatment of colleagues during previous layoffs.
The union called for a lunchtime walkout on May 30 at 1:00 p.m. EDT, urging employees in New York to gather outside the building on 6th Ave. Participants will be provided with picket signs and encouraged to voice their concerns during the march around the building.
For remote employees, a virtual walkout option was made available with a meeting link provided via email. Remote participants were also encouraged to set their out-of-office messages to show solidarity with laid-off colleagues.
Following the walkout, the union plans to announce further actions, address questions, and spend time together in solidarity. The move comes amidst a wave of labor coverage at The Wall Street Journal.
