Retail sales and services revenue in Vietnam have shown a significant increase of 8.7% year-on-year during the first five months of the year, reaching over VND2.58 quadrillion (US$101.3 billion), as reported by the General Statistics Office.
The revenue from retail sales of goods accounted for 77.5% of the total, surpassing VND1.99 quadrillion and marking a 7.4% growth compared to the same period last year. Notable increases were seen in various sectors, with retail sales of food and foodstuff expanding by 10.5%, household appliances and tools by 13.4%, garment and textile by 10.3%, and cultural and educational products by 15.5%.
Several localities in Vietnam experienced substantial rises in revenue during the five-month period, including Quang Ninh Province (10.1%), Hai Phong City (9.5%), Can Tho Province (8.4%), Da Nang City (8.2%), Ho Chi Minh City (6.8%), and Hanoi (6.7%).
Tourism revenue also saw a significant surge, increasing by 45.1% year-on-year to VND24.2 trillion. Key cities like Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and Quang Ninh witnessed remarkable growth rates of 52%, 46%, 44.6%, and 18% respectively. The country welcomed nearly 7.6 million foreign tourist arrivals during this period, marking a 64.9% increase from the previous year.
