Veteran Players Shine in Summer Celtics’ Opener Despite Loss to Heat

Veteran players JD Davison, Neemias Queta, and Jaden Springer put on a strong performance in the Summer Celtics’ opener against the Miami Heat, despite a 119-114 loss. The trio, all under contract with the team for the upcoming season, combined for an impressive 62 points. Springer led the team with 23 points, along with six assists, two rebounds, and two steals. Queta contributed 20 points and nine rebounds, while Davison added 19 points and seven assists.

However, their efforts were not enough to overcome Jaime Jaquez Jr. and the Heat. Jaquez Jr. led the game with 29 points, supported by Josh Christopher’s 20 points off the bench and Isaiah Stevens’ 11 assists, securing the victory for Miami.

The game was closely contested throughout, with neither team holding a significant lead. Boston shot 50% from the field in the first quarter, taking a four-point lead into the second quarter. Miami responded with an 8-0 run before halftime, leading 61-53 at the break. The Celtics fought back with an 8-0 run of their own after halftime, keeping the game competitive until the end.

Despite the loss, Boston had several positive takeaways from the game. In addition to the strong performances from Davison, Queta, and Springer, Baylor Scheierman and Jahmi’us Ramsey showed promise. Scheierman, in his professional debut, scored 13 points and displayed his shooting and passing skills. Ramsey was perfect from long range and the free-throw line, showcasing his scoring ability.

The Summer Celtics will have a day off before their next game, looking to build on their promising start in the Summer League.
