Valve Shuts Down Fan Projects Team Fortress: Source 2 and Portal 64

Valve has shut down two fan projects, Team Fortress: Source 2 and Portal 64, leaving fans disappointed and the projects officially dead. The news came after Valve issued a DMCA takedown demand that blocked the GitHub repositories of the fan projects.

Team Fortress: Source 2, a fan project aimed at porting Valve’s classic shooter to the Source 2 engine, faced the unfortunate fate of being shut down following the DMCA takedown. The project had been on shaky ground before Valve’s intervention, and the takedown was described as the final blow that led to its demise.

According to the announcement, the decision to discontinue the project was already being considered internally due to the code’s unusability with s&box’s recent major engine changes. The DMCA takedown from Valve was cited as the definitive reason for ending the project, leaving no possibility of revival.
