Upcoming Health Events and Support Groups in Willmar and Montevideo

As the community continues to prioritize health and wellness, several support groups and health-related events are scheduled in the coming weeks in Willmar and Montevideo. These gatherings provide a space for individuals to connect, share experiences, and find support.

Lutheran Social Service Memory Café

The Lutheran Social Service Memory Café will convene on Thursday, October 24, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Willmar Public Library. This monthly meeting is designed for individuals living with dementia and their caregivers. The Memory Café aims to create a welcoming environment where participants can engage in conversations and activities that promote social interaction and support. The LSS caregiver support group, which previously met bi-monthly at the Willmar Community Center, has now integrated into this café format. For more details, interested parties can reach out to Debi Retzlaff at 218-593-1333 or via email at debi.retzlaff@lssmn.org.

Cancer Support Group

A cancer support group is scheduled for Monday, October 28, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the CentraCare — Willmar Cancer Center. This group is open to anyone diagnosed with cancer, whether they are currently undergoing treatment or are in remission. Caregivers of cancer patients are also invited to attend. The support group offers a safe space for individuals to share their experiences and connect with others facing similar challenges. Participation is free, and attendees do not need to be patients at the CentraCare — Willmar Cancer Center to join. Those interested can register online at CentraCare.com/WillmarCancerSupport.

Breast Cancer Peer Support Group

Another important gathering is the breast cancer peer support group, which will meet on Monday, November 4, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the lobby of the CentraCare — Willmar Cancer Center. This group is open to anyone diagnosed with breast cancer at any stage, providing a supportive environment for sharing experiences and coping strategies. Like the cancer support group, attendance is free, and prior registration is not required for non-patients of the center. Registration is available at CentraCare.com/WillmarCancerSupport.

Parkinson’s Support Group

On Tuesday, November 5, a Parkinson’s support group will meet at 1:30 p.m. at the Montevideo Veterans Home in the community room. This group is open to individuals diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, as well as family members, friends, or community members interested in learning more about the condition. The meeting can also be attended virtually, making it accessible for those unable to attend in person. For further information or to receive the virtual meeting link, interested individuals can contact Gretchen Reeves at 320-435-1291.

These events represent a vital aspect of community health, fostering connections and providing necessary support for individuals and families navigating various health challenges. Participation in these groups can significantly enhance the well-being of attendees by offering emotional support and practical advice from peers.

For those looking to engage in these health-related activities, it is encouraged to mark calendars and reach out to the respective contacts for more information. The commitment to health and support within the community continues to grow, providing essential resources for those in need.
