Several people were hospitalized after a United Airlines flight from Tel Aviv to Newark International Airport was diverted to Stewart International Airport in Orange County, New York due to turbulence. The incident occurred on Friday, with over 300 passengers and crew members on board United Airlines Flight 85. The diversion was prompted by high winds and turbulence, leading to a tense situation for those on board.

Following an 11-hour flight from Israel, the plane was initially cleared to land in Newark. However, as it approached the airport, the pilots encountered ‘wind shear,’ a sudden change in wind direction, prompting them to initiate a ‘go-around’ and abort the landing. Passengers described the experience as akin to a roller coaster, with reports of panic and discomfort among those on board.

With fuel levels running low, the pilots made the decision to divert to Stewart International Airport in Newburgh. Upon landing, paramedics attended to more than two dozen individuals who had fallen ill during the turbulent flight. Ultimately, seven passengers were transported to a local hospital for observation, with reports indicating minor injuries and possible motion sickness among those affected.

While the ordeal was undoubtedly distressing for all involved, the plane was able to refuel and complete the journey to Newark without further incident. The incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of air travel and the importance of preparedness in the face of unexpected challenges.
