UK Flags Not At Half-Mast, X Fact Checks Users Making Kate Middleton Connections

Several social media users posted images of Union Flag- the de facto national flag of the United Kingdom – flying at half-mast on Sunday. While there was no confirmation about the same, conspiracy theorists quickly drew a Kate Middleton connection. Times Now has not been able to verify if the flags were really at half-mast.

British Union Jack half-mast images are going viral

X, platform formerly known as Twitter, fact checked users making the ‘half-mast’ claims. The images circulating are from Queen Elizabeth II’s death in 2022.

Kate Middleton, who is formally known as Princess Catherine, has been the subject of several conspiracy theories over the last month. The Princess of Wales is missing in action since her abdominal surgery in January. She has not addressed her health since.

However, Middleton’s absence has sparked several theories on social media – about her health and marriage. The 42-year-old faced flak after her ‘edited’ Mother’s Day picture was pulled down by news agencies.

On Sunday, the Princess of Wales skipped the annual St Patrick’s Day celebration. Meanwhile, ‘Kate Middleton Dead’ started trending on X. The Elon Musk-led platform fact-checked the ‘murder’ claims, saying there is no evidence to prove the same.

X users soon connected the Union Jack at half-mast images with Kate Middleton’s health. The British flag flies at half-mast only – when a sovereign dies, when a member of the British royal family dies, when a foreign Head of State dies and when a former British Prime Minister dies. No such event has taken place on Sunday.

“British Kate is dead! British authorities can immediately make a statement to the contrary. There is no need to lower the flags to half-mast and make a statement later,” one person tweeted.
