Trader Joe’s Recalls Steamed Chicken Soup Dumplings Due to Plastic Contamination

Trader Joe’s is facing another food recall, this time for its steamed chicken soup dumplings, which may contain pieces of hard plastic. The recall affects about 61,839 pounds of the product, which was produced on December 7, 2023, and distributed to Trader Joe’s retail locations nationwide.

The recall was initiated by CJ Foods Manufacturing Beaumont Corp., of Beaumont, Calif., after it was discovered that the dumplings may be contaminated with hard plastic from a permanent marker pen. The company is currently investigating the matter, with Schwan’s Company, the owner of CJ Foods, stating that their food safety experts are working to address the issue and prevent it from happening again.

Consumers are advised to check their freezers for the recalled Trader Joe’s Steamed Chicken Soup Dumplings, which come in 6-oz. boxes containing six dumplings. The affected products have lot codes “03.07.25.C1-1” and “03.07.25.C1-2” and the establishment number “P-46009” inside the USDA mark of inspection. The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) recommends that consumers either dispose of the product or return it to the place of purchase.

While there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions or injury due to consumption of these products, consumers who are concerned about potential injury are advised to contact a healthcare provider, according to the FSIS. This recall comes on the heels of another recent recall affecting Trader Joe’s, involving products containing cheese made by Rizo-López Foods of Modesto, California, due to a potential risk of listeria contamination.

Consumers are urged to stay informed about product recalls and to exercise caution when consuming food products. It is important to stay updated on food safety alerts and take appropriate action if you have any of the affected products in your possession.
