Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Coming to PlayStation 4 and 5

Exciting news for PlayStation fans! Aspyr, the video game company, has announced the upcoming release of Tomb Raider I-III Remastered for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. With the games set to launch in about 30 days, players can look forward to experiencing Lara Croft’s first three adventures with a fresh new look and feel.

Aspyr, based in Austin, TX, has a long history with the Tomb Raider franchise, having launched Tomb Raider II on Macintosh computers in 1998 and continued with several other titles until 2003. The decision to revisit these classic games was not taken lightly, with the company aiming to strike the right balance between preservation and modernization.

Collaborating with Crystal Dynamics, the developer behind the modern Tomb Raider series, Aspyr sought to honor the original games while making them accessible to contemporary audiences. The result is the upcoming release of Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Starring Lara Croft.

During the pre-production phase, the team focused on three key areas: engineering, gameplay, and art. In terms of engineering, the original source code and engine were utilized to ensure pixel-perfect preservation, allowing users to toggle back to the original look and feel of the games. This approach not only pays homage to the nostalgia of the originals but also showcases the technological advancements in gaming over the years.

When it comes to gameplay, Aspyr aimed to maintain the timeless essence of Tomb Raider I, II, and III, ensuring that every jump, secret, enemy, and puzzle remained true to the original design. However, the team also brainstormed additions to surprise and delight lifelong hardcore fans, including classic and modern control options to cater to different player preferences.
