Your TikTok feed may soon feature 30-minute videos
The popular app TikTok is reportedly considering extending its video length limit to 30 minutes, a significant expansion from its current maximum of 15 minutes. This potential change was first noticed by social media consultant Matt Navarra on the iOS beta version of the app in the UK, as reported by TechCrunch.
This move comes on the heels of TikTok’s previous extension from a 10-minute maximum to 15 minutes back in October 2023. It appears to reflect the platform’s ambition to become a comprehensive content hub, catering to a diverse range of user preferences and behaviors.
With its foray into the music industry and the launch of a music streaming service in various countries, TikTok has already made a significant impact. However, the latest development suggests that the platform is now setting its sights beyond the confines of short-form video, aiming to compete with streaming services like Netflix and HBO Max.
Notably, TikTok has seen a growing number of users consuming longer content on the platform, including full-length movies and TV shows presented in bite-sized segments. For instance, Paramount released the movie ‘Mean Girls’ in 23 parts for fans to enjoy on ‘Mean Girls Day’, while the official account for ‘The Sopranos’ posted 25-second episode summaries to commemorate the show’s 25th anniversary.
It is evident that TikTok is aggressively expanding its reach, positioning itself as a formidable competitor to established streaming platforms and vying for a larger share of users’ leisure time.
