Tigres set to face reigning champions Club America in crucial match

Tigres will face off against reigning champions Club America in a highly anticipated match at Estadio Universitario de Nuevo Leon. The hosts are aiming to secure their first home victory over America since 2017 and end an eight-game winless streak against their rivals.

In their last league outing, Tigres managed to salvage a point with a 1-1 draw against Atlas after securing a 1-0 win over Necaxa in their season opener. Despite being one of the top scorers in recent campaigns, the team has struggled to find the back of the net under new manager Veljko Paunovic, who is focused on enhancing their attacking prowess and clinching their first Apertura title since 2017.

However, Club America, who triumphed over Tigres in the Supercopa Liga MX a few weeks ago, poses a significant challenge for the hosts. America has dominated their recent encounters, with Tigres enduring six defeats and two draws in their last eight matches against them.

The defending league champions suffered a setback in their opening match of the campaign, losing 2-1 to San Luis, but rebounded with a strong 3-1 victory over Queretaro in their first home game of the season. Now, they aim to secure back-to-back wins as they face Tigres.

America will need to address their poor away form, having failed to win any of their last five competitive away games and only securing one victory in their last eight matches on the road across all competitions.

Both teams head into the match with relatively clean bills of health, with no major injuries or suspensions reported. Tigres may see the return of Andre-Pierre Gignac to the starting lineup after his impactful performance in the season opener.
