Thunderstorms Hit Southern Nevada as Monsoon Season Peaks

Thunderstorms Intensify in Southern Nevada as Monsoon Season Peaks

Las Vegas, NV – The monsoon season is in full effect, bringing a wave of thunderstorms to Southern Nevada this Thursday afternoon. Residents are experiencing heavy downpours, gusty winds, and frequent lightning strikes, with weather conditions expected to persist until sunset.

As the storms roll through, a Flash Flood Warning has been issued for the East Las Vegas Valley, effective until 4:15 PM. The heavy rains are particularly affecting areas around Henderson and the eastern parts of the valley, leading to flash flooding. Authorities remind the public to exercise caution and to remember the crucial advice: “Turn around, don’t drown” when encountering flooded roads.

In addition to the Flash Flood Warning, a Flood Advisory is in effect until 3:45 PM for the western half of the Las Vegas Valley. Minor flooding is anticipated in low-lying areas and regions with inadequate drainage systems. Wind gusts accompanying the thunderstorms have been reported in the 40-50 mph range, adding to the storm’s intensity.

The peak time for additional thunderstorms is expected to be until 7 PM this evening, after which conditions should begin to calm down as the sun sets and daytime heating diminishes.

Looking ahead, monsoon moisture is projected to linger in the region over the next week. The forecast indicates that pop-up showers and thunderstorms will continue through the weekend, coinciding with rising temperatures. An Excessive Heat Warning has been issued for the lower elevations of Southern Nevada from 10 AM Saturday until 9 PM Sunday, with high temperatures expected to soar between 110°F and 115°F.

The monsoon moisture is likely to remain in the area into early next week, with increased chances of thunderstorms from Monday through Wednesday. Residents are advised to stay informed about the weather conditions and take necessary precautions during this active monsoon period.
