The Bally Hotel Hosts 50th ‘Irish Wake’ Celebration for St. Patrick’s Day

St. Patrick’s Day is approaching, and one restaurant is gearing up for a weekend filled with Irish festivities. The Bally Hotel is all set to host its 50th ‘Irish wake’ celebration, promising a lively and entertaining event for all attendees.

Co-owner of The Bally Hotel, Trevor Knight, expressed his excitement for the upcoming celebration, emphasizing that the primary goal is for everyone to have a great time. The event has garnered a loyal following over the years, with patrons like Rick Rachor returning annually for the past two decades.

Rachor eagerly anticipates a particular tradition during the event – the revelation of the individual symbolizing the ‘deceased’ at the ‘Irish wake.’ This element adds an element of surprise and amusement to the festivities, creating an air of anticipation among the attendees.

Another unique feature of the ‘Irish wake’ is the tradition of having a living person lie in a coffin. This unconventional practice has piqued the curiosity of many, including first-time attendee Valerie Freed, who expressed her intrigue at the concept.

Furthermore, the event offers an array of activities, including live music and entertainment throughout the weekend, along with full dinner and food service. The organizers are thrilled about the anticipated turnout, with nearly 800 people expected to gather in the tent to partake in the Irish revelry.

This year, the Bally Hotel has added an Irish breakfast to the lineup of events on St. Paddy’s Day morning, further enhancing the celebratory atmosphere. The event is set to extend through Sunday, ensuring a prolonged and enjoyable experience for all participants.
