Tesla Prioritizing Older Hardware 3.0 Over Newer Hardware 4.0 for Full Self-Driving Beta V12 Software
Tesla’s latest Full Self-Driving Beta V12 software has been making waves, but it seems that the company is prioritizing cars with older Hardware 3.0 over the newer Hardware 4.0 models. Elon Musk has confirmed that running the FSD 12 on HW4 vehicles is not currently supported, as the focus remains on optimizing the experience for HW3 cars.
Despite the advanced technology equipped in the HW4 vehicles, including the Samsung Vision cameras and new computer, they are not getting the full FSD 12 experience. In fact, Tesla is emulating FSD created for the Hardware 3.0 kit in its HW4 vehicles, as Musk explained that all training is for Hardware 3, with HW4 running in emulation mode.
This decision aligns with the fact that the majority of Tesla vehicles on the road are still on Hardware 3.0. The company aims to prioritize optimizing the Full Self-Driving Beta experience for these vehicles first. The latest V12 version of the software has received positive reviews from testers, prompting Elon Musk to offer free FSD trials and mandatory training to new buyers to popularize its driver-assist features.
While Hardware 4.0 is expected to be superior in the long run, it appears that Tesla’s current focus is on ensuring the optimal performance of FSD on HW3 vehicles. As a result, HW4 models are currently not able to run the latest FSD 12 software, as the company continues to prioritize the older hardware for the time being.
