Tennessee Titans’ Potential Trade for L’Jarius Sneed Hits Roadblock Due to Contract Negotiations

Reports have emerged that the Tennessee Titans’ potential trade for cornerback L’Jarius Sneed has hit a roadblock due to contract negotiations. The Kansas City Chiefs had granted Sneed permission to seek a trade on February 28, but as of now, no progress has been made.

TheAthletic.com’s Nate Taylor revealed that the Chiefs and the Titans were close to finalizing a trade deal last week. However, the Titans were unable to reach an agreement with Sneed on a long-term contract. This stalemate arose after the Chiefs placed the non-exclusive tag on Sneed earlier in the month, a move that Sneed is not willing to accept.

Taylor reported that Sneed is aiming for a three- or four-year deal that would position him as one of the highest-paid players in his position. As free agency approaches its third week, it seems increasingly unlikely that Sneed’s desired contract will materialize.

Aside from the Titans, other teams such as the Vikings, Colts, Patriots, Lions, Falcons, and Jaguars have also shown interest in Sneed. However, the Lions have already secured a trade with the Buccaneers for cornerback Carlton Davis, while the Patriots, Vikings, and Falcons have reportedly ceased negotiations with the Chiefs regarding Sneed.

Currently, the highest-earning cornerback in the NFL is Jaire Alexander, with an average annual salary of $21 million, closely followed by Denzel Ward and Jalen Ramsey, who each earn $20 million per season or more. Sneed, who has never been selected for the Pro Bowl, accrued 18 penalties last season, including the postseason.

According to Taylor, the Chiefs were seeking at least a second-round pick in exchange for Sneed, but it appears that finalizing the trade compensation is the least of the complications in this uncertain deal.

It remains to be seen whether the trade for L’Jarius Sneed will come to fruition amidst these contract negotiations and the growing interest from multiple NFL teams.
