Modifying Chemotherapy Treatment Improves Lives of Older People with Cancer, Study Finds
A new study published in JAMA Network Open reveals that modifying chemotherapy treatment for older people with cancer can significantly enhance their lives without compromising treatment goals. Dr. Mostafa R. Mohamed, MD, PhD, and Dr. Supriya G. Mohile, MD, MS, led the study, analyzing data from over 600 participants aged 70 and above. The study found that modifying the amount and schedule of chemotherapy for older patients with advanced illness can allow them to avoid toxic side effects and maintain their ability to perform daily activities independently.
AI-VISION Study Launched to Improve Precision Therapy in Breast Cancer
Researchers from ICR, the Royal Marsden, and experts from the University of Durham and Concr are launching an AI-based clinical study to improve precision therapy in breast cancer. The AI-VISION study will profile tissue samples from patients with triple-negative breast cancer to define and validate biomarkers of chemotherapy response. This two-year study, funded by Innovate UK, aims to deliver precision medicine and improve clinical decision-making for cancer patients.
BC Cancer Centre at Royal Inland Hospital Approved
The Government of British Columbia has approved the business plan for the BC Cancer Centre at Royal Inland Hospital (RIH) in Kamloops, B.C. The $359 million project will include a five-storey facility with state-of-the-art cancer treatment capacity, including radiation therapy, MRI suite, and linear accelerator vaults. The facility will also feature a sacred space for traditional ceremonies in collaboration with Indigenous partners, and a new 470-stall parkade. BC Cancer executive vice-president and chief medical officer Dr. Kim Chi expressed excitement for the new treatment options to be brought to the region.
