Sturgill Simpson Rebrands as Johnny Blue Skies for New Album and Tour

Sturgill Simpson, the renowned artist, is making a comeback with a new album and tour, all under a fresh persona named Johnny Blue Skies. The upcoming album titled Passage Du Desir is set to be released on July 12 through his independent label, High Top Mountain Records.

Johnny Blue Skies collaborated with David Ferguson at Nashville’s Clement House Recording Studio and London’s Abbey Road Studios for this project. This album will be Simpson’s first release since 2021’s The Ballad of Dood and Juanita.

The album will feature eight songs, including tracks like “Mint Tea,” “If the Sun Never Rises Again,” “Swamp of Sadness,” and “Jupiter’s Faerie.”

As part of the promotion for his new moniker, Johnny Blue Skies will kick off his upcoming Why Not? Tour starting on August 11 at Outside Lands in San Francisco. The tour will feature a lineup including drummer Miles Miller, guitarist Laur Joamets, bassist Kevin Black, and keyboardist Robbie Crowell.

The tour is scheduled to cover various cities including Nashville, Detroit, George, Washington, Toronto, and Chicago. Fans can anticipate an exciting musical journey as Simpson showcases his new identity and music on stage.
