Strokestra: Musical Healing Program Launched by AdventHealth in Central Florida

A new musical healing program called ‘Strokestra’ has been launched by AdventHealth in Central Florida, aiming to help stroke patients through the power of music. The program, inspired by a similar initiative in Hull, England, involves musicians from the London Royal Philharmonic Orchestra collaborating with stroke survivors to create music together.

Jenni Moore, a stroke survivor who has experienced three strokes, shared her positive experience with the program. Despite facing challenges with mobility after her strokes, Moore found solace and joy in playing the xylophone as part of Strokestra. She emphasized how the program has lifted her spirits and aided in her healing process.

Tim Steiner, the creator and director of Strokestra, highlighted the profound impact of music on the body and brain. He emphasized the participatory nature of the project, encouraging active involvement from all participants in playing musical instruments.

Recognizing the increasing number of stroke cases in Central Florida, AdventHealth has partnered with the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra to adapt and expand the Strokestra program to cater to the local community. With a rise in stroke diagnoses and related deaths in the region, initiatives like Strokestra aim to offer innovative approaches to support stroke patients in their recovery journey.

For Jenni Moore, who also battles Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder predisposing individuals to strokes, the program has provided a meaningful outlet for expression and healing. Despite facing numerous medical challenges, including multiple surgeries and rehabilitation sessions, Moore found comfort and connection through music at Strokestra.

Through the harmonious blend of music and healing, Strokestra at AdventHealth is paving the way for a unique and therapeutic approach to supporting stroke survivors in Central Florida. As the program continues to evolve and expand, it offers a glimmer of hope and positivity for individuals like Jenni Moore, showcasing the transformative power of music in the healing process.
