Steve Burton, the veteran soap actor known for his role as Jason Morgan in General Hospital, is gearing up for a much-anticipated return to the show. After leaving the series in 2021 due to COVID-19 regulations, Burton has now revealed his official return date as March 4, 2024.
In a video shared on the Daily Drama’s YouTube channel, Burton excitedly announced his comeback, expressing his enthusiasm for the storyline awaiting fans. ‘So, here’s what’s crazy is I’m back on the set! We’re getting ready to shoot right now,’ he shared. ‘It’s gonna be awesome. So, make sure you keep watching, because the pieces of the puzzle are gonna be fit for when I return.’
Burton’s portrayal of Jason Morgan has been a staple on General Hospital, with his initial run spanning from 1991 to 2012. After a brief hiatus, he returned to the show in 2017, only to depart again in 2021 due to his refusal to comply with the COVID-19 vaccine mandate.
In an Instagram video addressing his departure, Burton expressed his disappointment at the situation, stating, ‘I wanted you to hear it from me personally. Unfortunately, General Hospital has let me go because of the vaccine mandate. I did apply for my medical and religious exemptions, and both of those were denied.’
Despite the unexpected turn of events, Burton remains hopeful for a potential future return, expressing his gratitude for the show and its impact on his career. ‘Maybe one day if these mandates are lifted, I can return and finish my career as Jason Morgan. That would be an honor,’ he shared.
Following his departure from General Hospital, Burton joined the cast of Days of Our Lives in 2023, portraying the character Harris Michaels. However, he later announced his exit from the show on January 4, 2024, before revealing his plans to return to General Hospital the following day.
With his much-anticipated return just around the corner, fans of General Hospital can look forward to the reemergence of Steve Burton as Jason Morgan, as he brings new excitement and energy to the beloved series.
