Spotify Teases Lossless Audio Upgrade for Users

Spotify, the popular music streaming service, has been teasing users with the promise of a lossless audio tier for quite some time now. Recent leaked UI elements suggest that this long-awaited feature might finally be on the horizon.

Currently, Spotify’s bitrate peaks at 320kbps. However, screenshots from version 1.2.36 of Spotify indicate that the lossless feature could offer streaming quality of up to 1,411kbps, with a potential to go even higher to 2,117kbps. This could mean a significant upgrade in audio quality for users.

The leaked images also reveal a compatibility checker that will inform users if their devices, connection type, and bandwidth can support lossless audio. Additionally, there are suggestions to download music in lossless quality for the best offline listening experience, as most Bluetooth devices may not fully support lossless sound.

Furthermore, the screenshots hint at the possibility of listening support for up to 24-bit/44.1kHz via the FLAC audio format for select songs. This aligns with previous references found in Spotify build code samples.

It’s worth noting that these UI elements are currently for visual representation only, as lossless playback is not yet operational. The feature, which was initially known as HiFi, is now reportedly being referred to as ‘enhanced listening’ internally at Spotify. The mobile app introduction screen suggests a rebranding to ‘Lossless,’ among other speculated names.

As users eagerly await the official rollout of this new feature, the leaked information has sparked excitement and anticipation within the Spotify community. The potential for higher audio quality and a more immersive listening experience has garnered attention from music enthusiasts.
