South Williamsport’s softball team showcased an impressive performance as they cruised past Brandywine Heights in the first round of the PIAA Class AA playoffs. The game, held at Lyons Field, saw South dominating with a 15-3 victory.
Despite the long journey to Lyons, the team’s spirits remained high thanks to Lily Reidy’s music selection on the bus ride. The players then translated that upbeat energy onto the field, securing their spot among the top eight Class AA teams in the state.
South Williamsport’s offense was firing on all cylinders, with eight players contributing a total of 15 hits in the game. Every starter managed to reach base, showcasing the team’s depth and consistency. Standout performances came from Abby and Sage Lorson, each going 3 for 5 with two doubles and three RBIs.
Pitcher Alizabeth Schuler delivered a stellar performance, earning her 12th playoff win and helping South advance to the state’s Elite Eight for the third consecutive year. The team’s 22-2 record speaks to their dominance on the field.
Looking ahead, South Williamsport is set to face off against District 1 champion Bristol in the next round. Bristol secured their spot by defeating MAST Community with a commanding 18-0 victory.
Speaking about the team dynamic, Sage Lorson highlighted the role of Lily as the team’s DJ, setting the tone with music both on the bus and during warm-ups. This camaraderie and positive energy have been key factors in South’s success this season.
South’s performance in the game against Brandywine Heights was marked by strong offense, solid defense, and overall team cohesion. The players demonstrated their skill both at bat and in the field, with key contributions from players like Schuler, Hills, and Goodman.
Coach Tom O’Malley commended the team for their focus and determination, especially after a long bus ride. The players’ ability to maintain their concentration and execute on the field was crucial in securing the historic third consecutive state quarterfinal appearance for South Williamsport.
