Sony has recently unveiled an exciting firmware roadmap for the BURANO, outlining upcoming updates that will enhance the user experience and functionality of the device. The roadmap includes the release of BURANO Version 1.1 in late June 2024 and Version 2.0, planned for March 2025 or later.

Version 1.1 of the firmware update is set to introduce features tailored for live event production and enhanced monitoring capabilities. This update will include the addition of a 1.5x de-squeeze display for anamorphic lenses, as well as support for S700 Protocol over Ethernet for remote control using an RCP (remote control panel). Users can adjust exposure, white balance, paint, and more via the RCP model. Additionally, Version 1.1 will enable Multi Matrix Area Indication, allowing users to fine-tune colors during Multi Matrix operation. The update will also support Sony’s Monitor & Control app version 2.0.0, offering features like Multi-Camera Monitoring function for iPadOS, exposure monitoring tools, focus control, and more.

Looking ahead to Version 2.0, users can expect a range of new features and improvements based on community feedback. This update will introduce new recording formats, including a 3.8K Full Frame crop that supports shooting up to 120 fps. Other recording formats will include 24.00 fps to X-OCN 16:9 imager modes, catering to different shooting preferences. Furthermore, Version 2.0 will bring a 1.8x de-squeeze setting and additional high frame rate (S & Q) modes, offering enhanced flexibility and creative options for users.

The firmware roadmap for the BURANO showcases Sony’s commitment to continuously improving and expanding the capabilities of their devices to meet the evolving needs of content creators and professionals. With these upcoming updates, users can look forward to enhanced functionality, new recording options, and improved monitoring features, further solidifying the BURANO’s position as a versatile and innovative tool in the industry.
