Serena Williams, Venus Williams, and Quinta Brunson Call Out Pat McAfee and Harrison Butker at 2024 ESPY Awards

Serena Williams, Venus Williams, and Quinta Brunson made waves at the 2024 ESPY Awards by calling out Pat McAfee for his controversial comments about WNBA star Caitlin Clark. The trio also took a stand against Harrison Butker for his far-right commencement speech at Benedictine College.

During the ESPYs show, Serena, Venus, and Quinta took to the stage to celebrate the increased popularity of female sports, particularly highlighting Caitlin Clark’s success as the No. 1 pick in the recent WNBA Draft after her standout performance at the University of Iowa.

Addressing the audience, the women emphasized the importance of using respectful terms when referring to female athletes, such as ‘athlete,’ ‘champion,’ and notably excluding terms like ‘dumbass.’ This moment was a clear jab at Pat McAfee, who had previously made derogatory remarks about Clark, referring to her in a derogatory manner during a discussion about her talent.

McAfee had come under fire for using inappropriate language, prompting him to issue a public apology on social media. He expressed regret for his choice of words and acknowledged the impact of his comments, particularly on Clark.

Furthermore, Serena, Venus, and Brunson did not shy away from addressing Harrison Butker’s controversial speech, condemning his far-right views and actions. The trio’s bold statements at the ESPY Awards highlighted their commitment to advocating for respect and equality in sports.
