Selena Gomez and David Henrie to Reunite for Wizards of Waverly Place Sequel

Selena Gomez and David Henrie are reuniting for a sequel to Disney’s hit show, Wizards of Waverly Place. The new pilot, ordered by Disney Branded Television, will see Gomez and Henrie as executive producers, with Gomez making a guest appearance as the iconic character, Alex Russo, and Henrie reprising his role as Justin Russo as a series regular.

The revival pilot, created by writers and executive producers Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas, will continue the story after a mysterious incident at WizTech, where an adult Justin Russo has left his wizard powers behind to lead a normal human life with his family. However, his life takes an unexpected turn when a young wizard in need of training shows up at his door, forcing Justin to confront his past to secure the future of the Wizard World.

New cast members Janice LeAnn Brown, Alkaio Thiele, and Mimi Gianopulos will join the show, with Brown portraying the powerful young wizard, Billie, who Justin mentors. Thiele will play Roman Russo, Justin’s oldest son, and Gianopulos will portray Justin’s wife, Giada. The pilot will also be executive produced by Gary Marsh and Andy Fickman, with Fickman directing.

Wizards of Waverly Place originally aired from 2007 to 2012, following the magical adventures of the Russo family. The show’s original cast, including Jake T. Austin, Jennifer Stone, Maria Canals-Barrera, and David DeLuise, (minus Henrie) reunited for the TV special, The Wizards Return: Alex Vs. Alex, in 2013.

The pilot order comes after years of speculation about a potential revival or reboot of Wizards of Waverly Place. The decision aligns with Disney Branded Television’s efforts to strengthen Disney Channel’s programming.
