San Francisco Business Owner Goes on Hunger Strike Over New Bike Lane

San Francisco Business Owner Goes on Hunger Strike Over New Bike Lane

A San Francisco business owner, Eiad Eltawil, has launched a hunger strike to draw attention to the negative impact of a protected bike lane on Valencia Street. Eltawil, the owner of Yasmin Restaurant and Rossi Mission SF, claims that the bike lane has adversely affected business along the corridor.

The bike lane is part of a pilot project aimed at protecting cyclists. However, Eltawil argues that the installation of the bike lane has led to the removal of 79 parking spots and the creation of a commercial zone, which has resulted in a significant loss of business for establishments in the area.

Eltawil expressed frustration over the lack of customer parking and the subsequent decline in business, noting that five businesses closed in the previous week. He emphasized that efforts to communicate these concerns to the city have yielded minimal results.

While some bicyclists have voiced support for the new bike lanes, citing improved traffic flow and enhanced safety, others have expressed discontent. The overall impact of the bike lanes on the corridor remains a topic of debate.

The situation continues to develop, and we will provide further updates as it unfolds.
