Rosemarie DeWitt and Kyle Gallner have joined the cast of Paramount Pictures’ upcoming untitled ‘Smile’ sequel, as exclusively reported by TheWrap. The duo will be starring alongside Naomi Scott and Lukas Gage in the horror follow-up.
The script for the sequel was penned by Parker Finn, who will also be directing the project, with Temple Hill taking on the role of producer. Plot details for the follow-up are being kept under wraps.
The original ‘Smile,’ a psychological supernatural horror film released in 2022, emerged as the top-grossing horror movie of the year, amassing $217 million at the global box office. Finn, who directed the original film, initially introduced the story in his 2020 short film ‘Laura Hasn’t Slept.’
Starring Sosie Bacon as Rose Cotter, a therapist plagued by a patient’s harrowing suicide, ‘Smile’ delves into a series of disturbing events triggered by the woman’s death, leading Rose to question her own sanity. As patients begin exhibiting the same eerie grin before meeting grim fates, Rose’s terror intensifies, hinting at a spreading curse. The film also featured Jessie T. Usher and Kal Penn.
DeWitt is set to appear in Disney+’s film adaptation of the best-selling novel ‘Out of My Mind’ by Sharon M. Harper. Directed by Amber Sealey, the movie follows a young girl with cerebral palsy navigating sixth grade as a non-verbal wheelchair user, with DeWitt portraying Diane, the girl’s mother and staunchest advocate.
DeWitt’s recent appearances include the series-finale episode of APPLE TV+’s Golden Globe-nominated series ‘Lessons in Chemistry,’ as well as the 2022 black comedy ‘The Estate’ alongside Toni Colette and Anna Faris. She also starred in HBO Max’s Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated series ‘The Staircase,’ opposite Colin Firth and Toni Collette, and in the 2021 drama ‘The Same Storm’ alongside Sandra Oh and Mary-Louise Parker. In television, DeWitt had recurring roles in the Emmy-nominated Amazon Prime series ‘The Boys’ and the ‘Sex and the City’ revival ‘And Just Like That…’. DeWitt is represented by CAA and MGMT Entertainment.
Gallner, known for his role in the original ‘Smile,’ has recently appeared in MGM’s ‘The Passenger’ and the 2022 ‘Scream’ reboot. He is represented by Paradigm and Integral Artists.
The untitled ‘Smile’ sequel is anticipated to continue the success of its predecessor, building on the chilling narrative that captivated audiences in the original film.
