Major Rangers defender Leon Balogun is facing a fitness doubt ahead of the crucial clash against Celtic this weekend. Balogun, who was substituted at half-time during the match against Kilmarnock, is not fully fit for the upcoming game at Celtic Park.
Having recently returned to the starting lineup due to Connor Goldson’s season-ending injury, Balogun’s potential absence could pose a challenge for Rangers in the title race showdown against their Glasgow rivals.
Rangers manager Philippe Clement confirmed the uncertainty surrounding Balogun’s fitness, stating, ‘Leon Balogun is doubtful, with no other fresh injuries or players returning from injury.’ Following Balogun’s substitution against Kilmarnock, Clement mentioned, ‘Yes, he was injured, which is why I had to replace him. I hope it is a minor muscle injury. We will assess him over the next few days, but he was struggling too much to continue.’
In addition to Balogun’s injury concern, Abdallah Sima and Rabbi Matondo are also unlikely to be fit for the Celtic match. However, Clement can rely on Ben Davies, who replaced Balogun in the previous game and scored in the victory over Kilmarnock. Davies is expected to partner John Souttar in the center of defense at Parkhead following the news of Balogun’s fitness issues.
As the anticipation builds for the high-stakes clash between Rangers and Celtic, the uncertainty surrounding Balogun’s availability adds an element of intrigue to the upcoming match.
