Racist Messages Directed at Angel Reese Exposed by Mother, Highlighting Challenges Faced by Black Women in WNBA

Angel Reese’s mother recently exposed racist messages directed at her daughter from supporters of Caitlin Clark, shedding light on the mistreatment faced by the Chicago Sky rookie. Former WNBA player Val Whiting shared the disturbing messages she received from Reese’s mother, highlighting the racial abuse Angel faces in the league.

Whiting took to X, previously known as Twitter, to reveal the screenshots she was sent by Reese’s mother. One message, from a man identified as William Martina, targeted Reese and her mother with derogatory and racially charged language. Martina, who used his real name and email address, made offensive remarks about Reese’s appearance and skills, siding with Caitlin Clark.

Another message shared by Whiting showed a supporter of Clark belittling Reese and her mother, accusing them of jealousy and incompetence. The message contained demeaning and racist language towards Reese and her family, emphasizing the challenges faced by black women in the sports industry.

Whiting also highlighted Martina’s professional background, noting that he holds a position of authority in a company, yet chose to engage in racial bullying towards a young black athlete. Reese’s mother disclosed that such hate-filled messages are a recurring occurrence, with emails and texts of a similar nature being received on a weekly basis.

In response to the hateful messages, Whiting acknowledged that while Clark has also faced racial discrimination, the intensity of the attacks directed at Angel Reese surpasses what Clark has experienced. Whiting emphasized the need to address the racial bias and mistreatment prevalent in the WNBA, calling for a more inclusive and respectful environment for all players.
