Rabid Fox Attacks Two Residents in Peekskill

The Westchester County Department of Health has issued an alert after a rabid fox attacked two residents in Peekskill. The incident occurred last Saturday, and the fox has tested positive for rabies, prompting both individuals to undergo preventative treatment.

According to the health department, unusual behavior in an animal may indicate rabies. This can manifest as abnormal aggression or unusual tameness, loss of fear of people, excitement, irritability, or passive and lethargic behavior. Additionally, visible signs such as staggering and frothing at the mouth may be present in rabid animals.

County Health Commissioner Dr. Sherlita Amler advised residents to stay away from animals exhibiting aggressive behavior and to immediately contact local police. In the event of a bite or scratch, individuals are urged to promptly reach out to the health department.
