Purdue clinches share of Big Ten regular-season championship with win over Michigan State

Zach Edey’s standout performance led Purdue to a 80-74 victory over Michigan State, clinching a share of the Big Ten regular-season championship. Edey scored 32 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, while Braden Smith contributed 23 points and nine boards.

The win marked Purdue’s 26th title, with the team boasting a record of 26-3 overall and 15-3 in the conference. With just two games remaining, the Boilermakers are poised to secure their second consecutive outright regular-season crown.

Purdue’s victory also solidified their position as a dominant force in the Big Ten, with the last team to achieve back-to-back outright regular-season titles being Ohio State in 2006 and 2007.

Michigan State, on the other hand, struggled to match Purdue’s performance, shooting just 39% and suffering their third consecutive loss. Despite efforts from players like Tyson Walker, Jaden Akins, Malik Hall, and Xavier Booker, they were unable to overcome Purdue’s prowess.

The game saw Purdue take an early lead, with Edey’s three-point play propelling them to a 15-point advantage. Although Michigan State managed to narrow the gap, Purdue maintained their composure, ultimately securing the win.

Purdue’s dominance was evident throughout the game, with key players like Smith and Fletcher Loyer making significant contributions. Smith’s three-pointer and Mason Gillis’ late-game play were crucial in maintaining Purdue’s lead and securing the victory.

The first half saw a remarkable display from Edey, who swiftly turned the tide in Purdue’s favor with eight quick points, leading to a 35-30 lead. The team’s resilience and strong performance ultimately earned them the well-deserved victory.
