President Ruto Apologizes to Daughter for Past Decision, Advocates for Creative Industry
President William Ruto recently made a heartfelt apology to his daughter, Cullie, during his visit to the United States. The apology came as a result of Ruto denying his daughter the opportunity to pursue a career in film eight years ago. The President expressed his regret while touring the Tyler Perry studios, where he gained a new perspective on the film industry.
Reflecting on his past decision, Ruto admitted, ‘About 8 years ago, my daughter Cullie expressed her interest in pursuing film. At that time, I did not support her decision, but today I must apologize to her. She was right, and I was wrong.’
Impressed by the state-of-the-art facilities at the Tyler Perry studios, Ruto emphasized the importance of investing in the creative sector. He highlighted the Kenyan government’s Talanta Hela Initiative, aimed at monetizing talent and providing opportunities for young creatives.
During his visit, Ruto also proposed the idea of hosting the Grammy Awards in Kenya, suggesting the Maasai Mara as a potential venue. The event’s organizers expressed interest in exploring the possibility further and plan to visit Nairobi for discussions in July.
The President’s visit to the Tyler Perry studios served as an inspiration to enhance collaboration and partnership with institutions that support creative talent. Ruto acknowledged the immense potential for Kenyan youth to monetize their creativity and contribute to the country’s economy.
