Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and it seems that love is in the air for many Brits, with some embracing non-traditional relationship styles. According to an exclusive Valentine’s Day sex survey conducted by The Sun, a surprising revelation has emerged – 10% of Brits are in polyamorous relationships. This non-monogamous relationship style, where individuals mutually agree to have multiple sexual or romantic partners, is gaining popularity, with 74% of those in polyamorous relationships planning to spend Valentine’s Day with more than one partner.
Furthermore, the survey found that 81% of individuals in polyamorous relationships will be buying presents for all of their partners, indicating that Valentine’s Day can be quite a pricey affair for them. The study, which polled 2,000 men and women aged 18 and over, sheds light on how Sun readers will be celebrating the most romantic day of the year.
Interestingly, the research also revealed that Belfast is the UK capital of polyamory, with nearly a quarter (22%) of the population engaging in unconventional relationships. London follows closely behind with 15%, while Birmingham and Sheffield share the third spot with 14%.
Delving deeper into the survey, it was unveiled that Manchester holds the title of the threesome hotspot of the country, with 86% of the population claiming to have had a three-way. Leeds secured the second position with 75% of pleasure seekers having enjoyed a threesome, while Southampton came in third place with 67% indulging in the experience.
Despite the rise in non-monogamous relationships, the survey also highlighted that the nation still holds romantic sentiments for Valentine’s Day, with 63% of those polled expressing their intent to celebrate the occasion. Additionally, 38% are anticipating a night of passion, with more than half expecting it to be more adventurous than usual.
