Police Academy Celebrates 40th Anniversary

A classic movie turned 40! Police Academy premiered on March 23, 1984 and for some, their favorite comedy film is 40 years old. The film is about ‘a group of good-hearted, but incompetent misfits’ who enter the police academy and their instructors do not put up with their pranks, according to IMDb.

The film was produced by The Ladd Company and grossed $8.5 million in its opening weekend. The film also grossed more than $149 million worldwide, with a budget of $4.5 million. Police Academy became such a success that six other sequels were made in the franchise.

But who are some of the stars that starred in Police Academy and where are they now?

Steve Guttenberg

Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1958, Steven Guttenberg is an actor, producer and director. He made his acting debut in The Boys From Brazil with Laurence Olivier and Gregory Peck in 1978. He played Cadet Carey Mahoney in Police Academy and its sequels. Steve has also starred in other films like Short Circuit, Cocoon and 3 Men and a Baby.

In the 1990s, Steve starred in comedy and family films like The Big Green, Home for the Holidays and It Takes Two. He later won a role in cult favorite TV series Veronica Mars in the 2000s. Steve posts a lot of motivational content on his social media. He recently paid tribute to the Police Academy’s 40th anniversary with a carousel of pictures.
