PLDT Inc. Expands Network Infrastructure with Guam Point-of-Presence Establishment

PLDT Inc. has made significant strides in expanding its network infrastructure to enhance global connectivity. The company recently announced the establishment of a physical point-of-presence (PoP) in Guam, further solidifying its presence in the Asia-Pacific and United States regions.

The addition of the Guam PoP, alongside existing locations in Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, and Los Angeles, marks a strategic move by PLDT Global Corp. to facilitate seamless communication between Asia-Pacific and the US. This development is aimed at empowering businesses and individuals in the region to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.

By leveraging the Asia-America Gateway international submarine cable network, PLDT has established a direct Philippines-to-Guam route through the newly created PoP. This infrastructure links PLDT’s VITRO Makati data center with GTA Teleguam’s GNC iX data center in Piti, Guam, unlocking unparalleled interconnection opportunities for carriers across the Asia-Pacific region.

Albert Villa-Real, President and CEO of PLDT Global, emphasized the significance of this expansion, stating, “By expanding our network infrastructure to Guam, we are not only enhancing connectivity but also facilitating seamless communication between Asia-Pacific and the US. This empowers businesses and individuals across the region to thrive in an interconnected world.”

Furthermore, PLDT Global recently entered into a strategic agreement with Saudi-based STC Group to improve international voice services, particularly targeting the enhancement of call quality for Filipinos abroad. The collaboration aims to address issues such as call drops and voice distortion through the deployment of advanced technologies.

STC Group, known for its voice wholesale traffic aggregation services across Europe, Africa, and Asia, will work closely with PLDT Global to enhance the overall call experience for overseas Filipino workers, a significant demographic with nearly 2 million individuals in 2022, primarily located in Saudi Arabia.

With these strategic initiatives and partnerships, PLDT Inc. continues to strengthen its position in the global telecommunications landscape, driving innovation and connectivity to meet the evolving needs of businesses and individuals in an interconnected world.
