Philadelphia Union Competing in Concacaf Champions Cup for Third Time in Club History

Philadelphia Union is set to compete for continental bragging rights in the Concacaf Champions Cup for the third time in club history. The tournament kicks off on Tuesday night in Costa Rica on FS2. The team earned their spot in the competition after defeating CF Monterrey in the Third Place Match in the 2023 Leagues Cup. The Boys in Blue will face off against Deportivo Saprissa in Round One with the first leg taking place at Ricardo Saprissa Stadium and the series finale at Subaru Park on Tuesday, February 27th. Tickets for the second leg can be purchased on PhiladelphiaUnion.com.

The Concacaf Champions Cup is a tournament that determines the best club in North America, combining clubs from all over North America, Central America, and the Caribbean into one event. The tournament will be played from February to June 2nd, alongside league campaigns, meaning the Union will be navigating two competitions simultaneously.

The competition is composed of five rounds: Round One, Round of 16, Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and the Final. The first four stages have home and away legs, guaranteeing a home match at Subaru Park in every round until the Final. The Final will be a single-elimination championship. Twenty-seven teams will participate in the tournament, with 22 of them playing in Round One.

Three teams qualified via the Leagues Cup: the winner (Inter Miami CF), runner-up (Nashville SC), and Philadelphia Union via a third-place finish. Five MLS teams qualified for the Concacaf Champions Cup: the MLS Cup champion (Columbus), the Supporters’ Shield winner (FC Cincinnati), the opposite conference winner (St. Louis), and the two next best clubs (Orlando City SC) and (New England Revolution). Six Liga MX sides also qualified for the competition.
